What this is
A free self-test. Not an exam, and not a qualification.
my-level.in estimates your language level from a short adaptive test and reports it on the CEFR scale, with a score and an explanation of your mistakes. It is free, and no account is needed to take it.
The CEFR is a publication of the Council of Europe. We use its scale to describe results and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or accredited by the Council of Europe or any examination body.
The test is not proctored: nobody checks who is sitting at the keyboard, whether you looked anything up, or how long you thought about a question. Anyone reading a result should treat it as a self-assessment, which is exactly what it is.
Fair use
Take the test as often as you like. Do not scrape the question pool.
You may take the test as many times as you want, and the questions you see are drawn fresh each time. Automated collection of questions, bulk requests, or attempts to extract the answer key are not allowed, and rate limits and monitoring are in place to enforce that.
Creating accounts in bulk, submitting results that were not produced by taking the test, or interfering with other people's results are all grounds for removing an account without notice.
Certificates
Free, verifiable, and revocable — by you or by us.
Every finished attempt gets a verification code and a PDF certificate at no cost. The certificate states the band, the score, the date and the name you set on your profile at the time it was issued; editing your name later does not rewrite certificates already in circulation.
A verification link is public to anyone holding the code. You can ask us to revoke a certificate, after which the link shows it as revoked rather than deleting the record.
We may revoke a certificate if we find that the attempt behind it was automated or otherwise falsified.
Liability
Do not make an irreversible decision on the strength of a free 15-minute test.
The service is provided as it is, without any warranty that a result is accurate, complete, or fit for a particular purpose. A level from this test is an estimate produced by a young and growing question pool.
We are not liable for decisions taken on the basis of a result — a job application, a course placement, a visa file — nor for any loss arising from the service being unavailable or from data lost through no fault of ours. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under the applicable law.
We do not promise uptime. This is a family project, and it is occasionally down for reasons as ordinary as a home internet outage.
Content rights
The questions are ours. Your result is yours.
The questions, explanations and the site itself are our work and may not be copied, republished or used to build a competing question pool without written permission.
Your answers and your result belong to you. If you send us a phrase or a question suggestion, you are giving us permission to use it in the pool — normally reworded — without payment or attribution.
Changes
Changed terms are dated, not backdated.
We update these terms as the service changes, and the date at the top of the page always says when. Continuing to use the site after a change means the current version applies to you.
The service is operated from the European Union, and the law of the operator's country of establishment applies.
